Keep Tally. Drop the Typing.
Most Indian businesses don't want to leave Tally — they want to stop hand-keying vouchers into it. Tally is a brilliant ledger; the painful part is the data entry that sits in front of it. Someone reads each bill, works out the GST split, picks the ledger, and types it all in, voucher after voucher.
The ZapBooks AI Tally Connector removes that step. AI reads your bills, an expert validates every field, and the connector posts the finished, GST-ready voucher straight into Tally. You stay on Tally; AI does the entry.

What the Tally Connector Actually Is
The connector is a small local Windows desktop app that bridges the ZapBooks AI cloud to your on-premise Tally. It lives in your system tray and communicates with Tally over Tally's own local HTTP/XML interface on port 9000 (auto-scanned across 9000-9010).
Local Windows App
Runs on Windows 10/11 (64-bit) in your system tray
Pushes Vouchers
Posts approved entries cloud-to-Tally as real vouchers
Reads Reports
Pulls read-only reports so you can verify everything
Single Writer
ZapBooks is the one source of truth — no double-posting
It's important to be precise here: this is a one-way push of your approved entries into Tally, plus a read-back of reports for verification. It is not a symmetric two-way transaction sync — and that single-writer design is exactly what keeps your books clean.
The End-to-End Flow
1. Capture
Send a bill in via dashboard upload, email forwarding, or WhatsApp — PDF, scan, or photo all work.
2. Extract
AI pulls out vendor, amounts, line items, GST, HSN, and TDS — the same AI core as the Zoho edition.
3. Validate & Approve
An expert reviews every field; approvers sign off from the dashboard or over WhatsApp.
4. Push to Tally
The connector posts the approved voucher into Tally — about every 60 seconds, plus an on-demand manual sync.
5. Verify
It reads back ledgers and statements so you can confirm the entry landed correctly.
The whole point: your team reviews and approves instead of reading and typing. The connector handles the keystrokes into Tally.
The 8 Voucher Types It Posts
Day-to-day accounting is covered end to end, with each voucher correctly typed so nothing has to be re-entered:
- Sales
- Purchase
- Payment
- Receipt
- Journal
- Contra
- Credit Note
- Debit Note
Read-Back Reports for Verification
Pushing entries is only half the job — you also need to trust that they landed correctly. The connector pulls read-only reports from Tally so you can reconcile without leaving ZapBooks:
Ledgers
Confirm balances against what was posted
Trial Balance
Check the books tie out
P&L
Read profit and loss straight from Tally
Balance Sheet
Verify financial position
Receivables & Payables
See outstanding positions at a glance
GST & TDS, Computed Before Posting
Because tax is computed before the voucher is created, the entry that reaches Tally is already compliant. The connector uses the same GST/TDS engine as the rest of ZapBooks:
- Automatic CGST + SGST vs IGST split based on place of supply
- Reverse Charge Mechanism (RCM) applied where applicable
- Section 17(5) blocked-credit handling so ineligible ITC is caught early
- A full TDS catalog — 194C, 194J, 194I, 194H, 194Q, 195, 206AA — at current Budget-2024 rates
Compliance happens at the point of entry, so your Tally vouchers arrive correct rather than needing cleanup during GST filing.
Setup: From Download to First Sync
Onboarding is self-serve and designed to take minutes, not an IT ticket:
Download & Install
Grab the installer and run it. It's a per-user NSIS install — no administrator rights required — and it drops into your system tray.
Sign In or Redeem a Code
Sign in, or paste a 6-digit link code (valid for 15 minutes) to pair the connector with your ZapBooks account.
Run the 9-Step Wizard
The wizard detects your Tally and device fingerprint, confirms your license mode, registers the connector, activates your companies, invites approvers and employees, and runs a 4-test verification.
Go Live
Approve your first entry and watch it appear in Tally on the next sync.
Connection Modes
However your Tally is hosted, the connector can reach it:
| Mode | Where Tally Runs | How the Connector Reaches It |
|---|---|---|
| Own server / VPS | Your machine or VPS | IP address on port 9000 |
| Tally cloud access | Inside the Tally VM | localhost:9000 (needs Tally Release 6.0+) |
| Tally.NET Gold remote | Remote Tally setup | IP address on port 9999 |
Security & Data Residency
For a lot of Tally users, this is the deciding factor. Your Tally data never leaves your network — the ZapBooks cloud never connects to your Tally directly; only the local connector does, and only locally.
Local-Only to Tally
Connector-to-Tally traffic stays inside your premises
Hardened Electron
Context isolation, sandboxed, DevTools off in production, refuses debug flags
Encrypted Tokens
Sign-in token encrypted via the OS secure store; logs scrub tokens
Fingerprinted & Revocable
Each connector is device-fingerprinted, revocable, and triple-audited; server secrets are AES-256-GCM
Pricing & Trial
The Tally edition is transaction-metered rather than seat-based. Pricing starts from around Rs 7,000 per 100-150 transactions plus GST, and you can try it free for 14 days with no card. It is a separate plan from the Zoho Books edition — pick the destination that matches your books.
